The Association of the British Pharmaceutical Industry (ABPI) has welcomed the return of Norgine as a full member, effective 7 February 2017.
Netherlands-based Norgine is the largest employer in the pharmaceutical manufacturing sector in Wales with around 400 staff based at their state-of-the-art site in Hengoed, Wales. They employ a further 370 staff at their Harefield site in England from which their global operations are jointly run along with Norgine’s headquarters in Amsterdam.
Mike Thompson, Chief Executive Officer of the ABPI, said: “We are delighted to welcome Norgine back to the ABPI. As we plan for life outside the European Union and address the opportunities within the Government’s Industrial Strategy, having Norgine’s support, with their heritage of adapting and responding to challenges together with their focus on innovation and partnership, comes at an opportune time.”
Norgine’s Chief Operating Officer, Peter Martin, said: “The work of the ABPI is fundamental in ensuring that the interests of large and small pharmaceutical companies are well represented when leaving the EU and ultimately, to ensure that UK patients are not left behind when the rest of Europe are accessing new treatments.”
Seven new members joined the ABPI in 2016; Intercept Pharmaceuticals, Pharma Mar, Shield Therapeutics, Sintetica, SOBI and Tesaro all became new full members, and Roche rejoined the trade association.
