Happy Clinical Trials Day!

International Clinical Trials Day is marked by the pharmaceutical industry worldwide.

On or around the 20 May each year, the pharma industry takes a moment to mark International Clinical Trials Day.

The date is that of the beginning of James Lind’s famous trial on 20th May 1747, when the famous Scottish doctor began the process of experiments to discover a treatment for scurvy. Lind’s efforts marked the world’s first clinical trial, albeit one conducted on 12 men while Lind was a surgeon on HMS Salisbury.

The anniversary is celebrated internationally each year to remind the world of the importance of clinical trials in healthcare research and development.

There are various global events, presentations and conferences planned to coincide with this day and recognise the challenges and benefits of clinical trials.
