Four CSUs selected for comms and engagement services

The NHS Commissioning Board has agreed the four lead CSUs which will provide communications and engagement services across the country.

The four lead CSUs are:

  • West Yorkshire CSU for the North of England
  • Birmingham, Black Country and Solihull CSU as the lead for Midlands and East
  • North West London CSU for London
  • Commissioning Support South CS for the South.

The configuration is the fourth set of ‘scale’ commissioning support services agreed by the board.

Proposals for communications and engagement services were reviewed by the Communications and Engagement Oversight Group earlier this year before the four groups were chosen.

The Commissioning Board has indicated that other CSUs who wish to provide these services, either nationally or locally, will be able to do so – but they must go through the same processes and checks as the first four chosen.

The Board said that all collaboratives “will be expected to operate within a framework of agreed principles that include a clear mission statement and terms of reference, leadership by one CSU and a dedicated individual or core group to ensure all members are communicating effectively.”
